2017 Leadership Program

Developing Leaders to Build Strong Communities

Make a Difference!

Interested in serving your community, growing an organization, revitalizing your business, and perhaps changing the world? The Ashland & Bayfield Counties Leadership Program is designed to enhance your leadership skills toward building rewarding relationships, utilizing your strengths more effectively and fine-tuning decision making skills to generate motivation and execution.

Program Schedule:

  • Early Applications and $175 due by December 30, 2016
  • Application deadline and program cost $199 due by January 13, 2017
  • Orientation: January 19, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Retreat: Friday January 27th, 1 p.m. – Saturday, January 28th, 2:00 p.m. at Lakewoods Resort in Cable.
  • Regular Meetings: Thursdays, 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.; February 16 & 23,  March 9 & 30, April 13 & 27
  • Graduation Banquet: May 4th, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Program locations to be announced. Participants are expected to attend all scheduled sessions. There is also the expectation that participants will read materials between meetings and complete other homework.

We Want You!

This four month program accepts 15 – 20 adults from Ashland & Bayfield Counties who are committed to enhancing their leadership skills and have a desire to begin or continue their community involvement. Previous leadership experience is not required. The program will benefit those who are, or would like to be: organization members and officers; board members; faith lay leaders; concerned citizens; elected officials; community volunteers; business people; and non-profit employees.

Previous program graduates are: serving as leaders of organizations, working on community committees, boards, and projects, serving as elected officials, achieving job advancement, and networking to improve our local communities.

What Will the Program Look Like? 2017 Leadership Brochure

The Ashland & Bayfield Counties Leadership Program, for 15-20 chosen participants, is an interactive opportunity to strengthen individual leadership skills. With an emphasis on networking, decision making, and personal development toward building richer relationships, this two-county invitation is extended to anyone wishing to fine-tune their interpersonal skills of leadership. Effective public and private leadership requires great flexibility working with diverse populations, interests, passions, and talents. We’re hoping the program participants comprise that diversity.

If this speaks to you in your current leadership position, or you’re considering taking a greater leadership role in your community or work, this is a great opportunity for you to hone those skills to be a more effective leader. Varied Ashland/Bayfield locations expose the participants to a variety of settings to broaden awareness and appreciation of this beautiful Chequamegon Bay area.

Purpose:

The program’s focus is to create a network of local leaders who will help guide our communities through change while insuring the healthy quality of life we so cherish. Engaged citizens are better prepared leaders who, in turn, increase the effectiveness of organizations and the vitality within communities.

Who benefits?  The individual program participants and the organizations in which they’re involved will benefit from the program. This program enhances a group of energized individuals bringing new skills to civic engagement and community participation.

Costs:

The cost for the program is $199 (Early bird $175 due by December 30th) and covers lodging and food at the retreat, materials, and guest presenters.  Applications are due January 13th.  A check for the tuition should accompany your application payable to Ashland County Leadership. Some employers or organizations might help with the tuition fee. Partial scholarships are available.  Please contact program for details.

Please fill out the 2017 Leadership Application Form available online, or pick-up an application at either UW-Extension office. An application can also be mailed to you upon request.  Please be sure to sign your application.  Return completed application to the UW-Extension Ashland County Office, 201 W Main St, Ashland, WI 54806.
